Writer: TRC ConceptsTRC Concepts

Camping is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy the great outdoors. And what better way to enhance your camping experience than by cooking over an open fire? Steel flatpack firepits are a popular option for camping enthusiasts because they are portable, easy to assemble, and durable. In this blog, we will discuss the care and maintenance of steel flatpack firepits to ensure they last for many camping trips to come.

Keep it clean

After each use, make sure to clean your firepit thoroughly. Remove any ash, soot, or debris with a brush or a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning tools that could damage the steel.

Store it properly

When not in use, store your steel flatpack firepit in a dry place. If you're camping in wet conditions, make sure to dry it off before packing it away. Avoid storing it in damp or humid areas to prevent rust and corrosion.

Use a protective cover

Consider using a protective cover to protect your steel flatpack firepit from the elements when not in use. TRC Concepts manufactures are range of covers to help keep your fire pit protected.

Paint the Fire Pit

All TRC Concepts fire pits are manufactured locally from quality Australian steel. As the fire pits are supplied unpainted, without treatment they will develop a natural rust patina. To inhibit this process, fire pits may be painted and should be stored indoors, free from dirt and moisture. TRC Concepts recommends heat resistant paints such as Pot Belly Black from White Knight. To maintain appearance, repaint the fire pit every 6 to 12 months. As as alternative to painting, You can also lightly coat the fire pit in cooking oil every few uses.

Check for signs of wear and tear

Regularly inspect your firepit for signs of wear and tear. Check for any cracks, dents, or corrosion, which can weaken the steel and compromise its structural integrity. If you notice any damage, avoid using the firepit until it has been repaired or replaced. Some steel panels may warp slightly over time. Where possible, you can rotate the panels each time you use the fire pit to straighten these panels.

Steel flatpack firepits are a great addition to any camping trip, but proper care and maintenance is essential to ensure they last for many years. By following these simple tips, you can keep your firepit in good condition and enjoy many memorable camping trips around the fire.
