Off-Road Essentials: A Guide to Storing Recovery Boards on Your 4WD

Off-road enthusiasts love to push the limits of their four-wheel drives by tackling challenging terrain. However, this can sometimes lead to getting stuck in the mud, sand, or other tricky conditions. That's where recovery boards come in handy, as they help drivers get their 4WDs out of tough spots by providing traction for the tires. In this blog post, we'll take a look at some effective ways to store Maxtrax and Tred recovery boards on a 4WD.

Roof Rack Mounting

One of the most popular ways to store recovery boards is to mount them on a roof rack. This not only keeps them easily accessible but also saves valuable space inside your vehicle. Recovery boards can become very dirty so storing them on the outside of your vehicle is ideal. Throw them on the roof and strap them down and you are good to go.

While a tie down strap is cost effective, it is not always the ideal solution. Recovery situations can be stressful so undoing a strap or untying a knot can add unnecessary complications to the recovery. TRC Concepts manufactures a variety of mounting brackets to help provide easy access to your Maxtrax or Tred recovery boards when you need them most.

  • Maxtrax/Tred Mounting Brackets - TRC Concepts' Maxtrax/Tred Mounting Brackets provide a secure way to mount your Maxtrax or Tred recovery boards to roof platforms. These brackets are available to suit many of the common platform roof racks. The included bolt kits are roof rack specific so be sure to check compatibility prior to ordering. The brackets are available in powder coated steel, aluminium and stainless steel. For those that have a mesh roof rack or a tub rack, TRC Concepts manufactures a Backing Plate kit . These backing plates are designed to work with our Maxtrax brackets by providing additional support on the underside of the mesh or tub rack. They will also work in a variety of other applications thanks to the strategically located mounting holes.

  • Maxtrax/Tred Mounting Tray - TRC Concepts Maxtrax/Tred Mounting Tray is the ideal mounting solution for use with cross bar roof racks. This tray is available in two sizes to suit cross bars that are mounted up to 1334mm apart. This tray is also a great solution for carrying longer items such as a swag or firewood as the tray provides additional tie down points and a solid base to prevent items from sagging on to the vehicles roof. Custom sizes available.

Both mounting brackets require a set of Maxtrax or Tred Mounting Pins. Maxtrax Mounting Pins are designed to secure one or two pairs of recovery boards. Ensure to get the correct pins to suit your Maxtrax model. Maxtrax mounting pins have a hole in the top of each pin for a padlock.

Storing Them Inside the Vehicle

Another option is to store your recovery boards inside your vehicle. This is a great option if you have limited roof space or load capacity, or if you don't want to expose your boards to the elements. You can store them vertically behind the seats or horizontally in the cargo area of your 4WD. Storing recovery boards inside the vehicle may make them more difficult to access in a recovery situation. Recovery boards may be dirty after use and may require cleaning before storing in the vehicle. A storage bag is a great option to help keep the inside of your vehicle clean when storing dirty recovery boards.

There are several effective ways to store recovery boards on a 4WD. Whether you choose to mount them on the roof rack or inside your vehicle, make sure they are securely fastened to prevent them from moving around during on and off-road adventures. With the right storage solution, you can keep your recovery boards in excellent condition and be ready to tackle any terrain.
